Random Acts Of Kindness

yes, the cheek pinchers :)

yes, the cheek pinchers :)

I think that's wonderful..T...

I think that's wonderful..These little ladies in the nursing homes love stuff like that..I remember when my girls were small,we'd do the same thing..Us older ones would sing and the children would make the rounds. one thing my children didn't like is when their cheeks were pinched...lol...it was fun, though....

When my daughter Steph, and...

When my daughter Steph, and her friend were in 6th grade they would go to nursing homes and paint the ladies finger nails for them, but she would be a little offended because they wanted bright red colors, not the colors she'd choose. :-) The women really apprecited it. My daughters did a lot of good deeds for people. We've always taught them to help those who help themselves, or who are not capable of doing for themselves.

another random act of kindness(unnoticed to the hutterite).. I was exiting a local shopping centre, and there was this senior hutterite who proceding to a vehical. This senior was walking with a cane, as he was a stroke victim.. As he was walking to the vehical, there were 2 or 3 young kids on skate boards thundering down the sidewalks towards us. I was a few feet away and walking in the same direction of this senior. I noticed that these kids were going to run into the senior, but I managed to step up alittle closer and the kids jumped off of their skateboards and ran off in another direction. I just kept on walking, and looked back at the senior, and he was inching himself into the vehical. Guess we can say I have a shield for seniors.

Yes Fraeulein . . . e-cards...

Yes Fraeulein . . . e-cards are funny and so alive . . . I have to agree, but I really like getting mail the old fashioned way too . . . LOL as my mailbox is now only ever full of bills and junk mail - LOL!! PS . . . Yes the Audio was a great idea . . . although now Jerry has accused me of creating more work for him . . . . LOL . . . but we all know he loves it!!

Some family members are sca...

Some family members are scared to go and see their loved ones in a nursing home. I remember this one resident, she had lots of family members and some of them lived 2 blocks away. Not one of her family members(even the adult Grandkids) came to visit. I met one of them who came for a brief visit and to pay for the care, and I overheard this person say to a staff member "As far as I am concerned, she's already passed on". I felt upset from what I heard, but I could not take this personally as I was not a member of the family. I wanted to complain, but it just passed out the other ear. Sitting within ear shot while sitting with another resident. These people in the nursing home are helpless and lost. In away I feel sorry for them that they are not getting the care by their own family. In another way, I feel sorry for the family that they can't care for their members.

That is so cool Bill,we use...

That is so cool Bill,we used to that as a family when our kids were really small, but as they got older they didn't like being around old people as much and would cry a lot,so there was no sense in taking them.My own dad was in bed for a few years before he passed ,and we had a hospital bed in our house, my one daughter only knows him like that. And it is so sweet to look at pictures when she was real little, just hugging and kissing away at her Opa,she didn't care he couldn't give it back,it was unconditional love on her part.If I can get my scanner to work I'll post a pic.I really think it is great if you had the time to volunteer, even if the seniors don't remember from one day to the next, some of them are so lonely .We will all be old sooner or later,it is important that we are kind to seniors and honor them .We'll want to be treated nice when we are old.;)

Do you really feel e-cards ...

Do you really feel e-cards are impersonal? I love e-cards.....I think most of them are funny and so alive.....well anyway, that is my opinion,we all have different feelings about them.I still have some old letters from my mom and even some things that my dad wrote or signed and yes that is special ,because seeing his handwriting will spark a series of memories. So I decided to hang on to my mom's letters too so I will have them later in life. But regardless, memories will be there for a long time, real letter or e-cards. And btw Lisa.......thanks for your great idea on the audio ;)

awesome idea, we need more ...

awesome idea, we need more caring loving people in the world. I do know that visiting a nursing home and chatting with the folks there is one of the nicest things you can ever do for them simply because some of them either dont have any family close, or there familys just choose not to come visit.

Hutterite History - Nuggets of Wisdom - and More

Hutterite Network and Firefox
HutteriteNetwork.com - Animated GIF
Hutterites are a communal branch of Anabaptists who, like the Amish and Mennonites, trace their roots to the Radical Reformation of the 16th century.

Since the death of their founder Jakob Hutter in 1528, the beliefs of the Hutterites, especially living in a community of goods and absolute pacifism, has resulted in hundreds of years of odyssey through many countries.

Nearly extinct by the 18th and 19th century, the Hutterites found a new home in North America. Over 125 years their population grew from 400 to around 50,000.

History

Originating in the Austrian province of Tyrol in the 16th century, the forerunners of the Hutterites migrated to Moravia to escape persecution. There, under the leadership of Jakob Hutter, they developed the communal form of living based on the New Testament books of the Acts of the Apostles (Chapters 2 (especially Verse 44), 4, and 5) and 2 Corinthians—which distinguishes them from other Anabaptists such as the Amish and Mennonites.

A basic tenet of Hutterian society has always been absolute pacifism, forbidding its members from taking part in military activities, taking orders, wearing a formal uniform (such as a soldier's or a police officer's) or contributing to war taxes. This has led to expulsion or persecution in the several lands in which they have lived.

In Moravia, the Hutterites flourished for over a century, until renewed persecution caused by the Austrian takeover of the Czech lands forced them once again to migrate, first to Transylvania, and, then, in the early 18th century, to Ukraine, in the Russian Empire.

Some Hutterites converted to Catholicism and retained a separate ethnic identity in Slovakia as the Habans until the 19th century (by the end of World War II, the Haban group had become essentially extinct). At this time the number of Hutterites had fallen to around 100.

In Ukraine, the Hutterites enjoyed relative prosperity, although their distinctive form of communal life was influenced by neighboring Russian Mennonites. In time, though, Russia had installed a new compulsory military service law, and the pressure was on again.

After sending scouts to North America in 1873 along with a Mennonite delegation, three groups totalling 1265 individuals migrated to North America between 1874 and 1879 in response to the new Russian military service law. Of these, 400 identified as Eigentümler and shared a community of goods.

Most Hutterites are descended from these 400. Named for the leader of each group (the Schmiedeleut, Dariusleut, and Lehrerleut, leut being based on the German word for people), they settled initially in the Dakota Territory; later, Dariusleut colonies were established in central Montana. Here, each group reestablished the traditional Hutterite communal lifestyle.

During World War I, the pacifist Hutterites suffered persecution in the United States. In the most severe case, four Hutterite men subjected to military draft who refused to comply were imprisoned and tortured. Ultimately, two died at Leavenworth Military Prison from mistreatment, after the Armistice had been signed ending the war.

The Hutterite community responded by abandoning Dakota and moving 17 of the 18 existing American colonies to the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. With the passage of laws protecting conscientious objectors, however, some of the Schmiedeleut ultimately returned to the Dakotas beginning in the 1930s, where they built and inhabited new colonies. Some of the abandoned structures from the first wave still stand in South Dakota.

In 1942, alarmed at the influx of Dakota Hutterites buying copious tracts of land, the province of Alberta passed the Communal Properties Act, severely restricting the expansion of the Dariusleut and Lehrerleut colonies. The act was repealed in 1973, allowing Hutterites to purchase land. This act resulted in the establishment of a number of new colonies in British Columbia and Saskatchewan and at the same time there was expansion into Montana and eastern Washington in the 1940s and 1950s. Today, approximately three of every four Hutterite colonies are in Canada (mostly in Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan), with almost all of the remainder in the United States (primarily South Dakota and Montana). The total Hutterite population in both countries is generally estimated between forty and fifty thousand.

For a few years in the early 1950s, and in 1974–1990, the Arnoldleut (or Bruderhof Communities) were recognized as Hutterites. Although most Hutterites live in the Midwestern United States and in Western Canada, Hutterite colonies have been established in Australia, Nigeria and Japan. info from Wikipedia

Comment on Huge Announcement - The Hutterite Social Networking Site Is Here by benjamin

Hi folks, is this becoming a sissy society ladies birthday almanac tea party social network? there is a huge difference between character assassination and a healthy debate....I trust the founder of this website does not expect it's members to be nicey lovey dovey kiss kiss attitude on a consistent basis....That is unnatural...ok? GUYS will confront, disagree, get somewhat obnoxious at times... that is the norm...God made them that way.... If I think Bob's idea for a presidential candidate sucks, I WILL LET BOB KNOW, IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS.....AND I EXPECT HIM TO DO THE SAME TO ME!!! If Susie thinks colony life is the only way to heaven...I WILL LET SUSIE KNOW THAT SHE IS DEAD WRONG!!!.........and if this network labels this behavior as unacceptable, then you are living in la la land, and I trust Mr Wipf is of the same opinion... God bless you.

Comment on "Once a Hutterite, Always a Hutterite" by Lisa Kleinsasser (Owens) by Tschetter

Funny story. I've been out of the colony for over 10 years now (never to join again) and I remember my uncles coming to visit when I was just a toddler and\or small boy. They left when they were quite young due to abuse from various "elders" or "bosses" and the funny thing is they were never ashamed like so many "ex's" are of having been born there. Now when I go visit it's first and foremost to see my folks and family but I have to admit that it's also amusing to me because there's so much that I forget from visit to visit that it SHOCKS me to see them live like they do!! It really does and there is NO NO NO way that I would EVER conform and subscribe to their incredibly abstract socialistic ideals and views again. To me it's just wrong and please don't get me started on that because thats a whole new ball of wax. It's cool in its own way to have been born and raised there; chicks adore my accent :), people love my "escape" and "other life" stories and when all else fails, it'll get you another beer at the local tavern with the boys. Beyond that, its not the only crazy religion that this old world has to offer; and certainly not the worst. Peace

Comment on Priceless.. lil Hutterite with Winter Cap by Jeff

Ok, I didn't see your last paragraph's explanation. The documentary DVD, "The Hutterites: To Care and Not to Care," explains that this cap was a mark of Hutterite sojourn in Russia, so I will assume that it is of Russian origin--and possibly Transylvanian, etc.

Walking By Faith

Colossians 2:6, 7 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith Some Christians believe that walking by faith means being carried along by a mysterious, ethereal, indescribable inner sense called "faith." But the walk of faith is much more practical and definable than that. Walking by faith simply means that you function in daily life on the basis of what you believe. Your belief sy… Continue

The Contract and the Fine Print

In a recent thread, I referred to the seven weeks of 'Runtgehen' that Hutterite Täulfinge partake in as a lesson in 'understanding the fine print before you sign the contract'. That had some people assuming that Hutterites actually ink a contract when they are baptized. That is not so... it was only a figure of speech; an allegory. I'm wondering if anyone had ever heard the comparison before; as I am not it's author. 'Fine Print' refers to what the Bible says about Baptism; what baptism symbo… Continue
